Bonfire 2010

Well, the pile was high, the weather was fine and the crowd was large when the Leghowney bonfire was lit on Saturday night 26th June, and what a bonfire it was! Even the midges could not damped the enthusiasm of the gathered crowd, and the children were especially fascinated with the sight of a big (No burning here since the burning ban!!) When the scratching got just too much, everyone took refuge in the hall where they were treated to a fine array of barbecued food, being produced "conveyor belt" style by the "Barbecue Kings of Leghowney" - Martin, Keith and Davy. Then everyone settled down to a rare evening of chat and laughter when busy neighbours and friends could catch up and the sound of laughter and banter echoed through the area. Congratulations to all the hardworking committee who came together to organise the Bonfire Barbecue - especially the ladies of the "Catering Core" and all those who helped out on the night. Thank you all, and to everyone who came along to make the night so special, including the Mitchells from Bridgetown who we are nearly ready to "adopt" in Leghowney
Our next main event is under preparation at the moment - Leghowney Sheep races on July 31st. At the time of going to press the field is being cut and baled by John and crew, and soon the "lassies" will be getting a dander around the course, in anticipation of their "day in the sun" or on the racecourse to be more exact!! - and if you would like to be the "owner" of a sheep who will run under your chosen name and colours, just get in touch with any of the committee members. We shall have a full rundown of all events shortly - so keep watching!
The usual array of delicious baking and freshly harvested fruit and vegetables, along with bedding plants etc will be available at this weeks Country Market - that is Saturday 10th July at 11am. Not to be missed.
